We headed to the lake at 5 and decided we would have a silly hat party to entertain us on the way down. I don't have the pics of Uncle Austin and Uncle Marshall (they were driving down in their own vehicles and playing along in our silly game)
Here's how it goes...
Find a silly hat in your car. Put it on. Take a picture. And text it to everyone else playing the game! Fun right? Cruz thought it was hysterical!
We had our first close call with tornados for this year last week. Fortunately for us, there was no damage to our home, work, nor any of our family and friends homes. There was, however, extensive damage in areas surrounding OKC and many families lost their homes and some lost lives. Prayers are going up all over the state for these families.
My experience living in Oklahoma has taught me not to mess around with tornados especially when Gary tells you to put helmets on your kids and get underground! We were warned last week that the weather would be pretty nasty and that the potential for tornados in our area would be extremely high. I picked up the boys around 3 and we headed to Aunt Amy's work (they have a safe room). I figured it would be better to be safe than sorry. The kids did great and no one panicked (except a couple poor puppies:)) Numerous tornadoes touched down all around us in the Chickasha, El Reno, and Peidmont areas but none hit us directly. Thank you Jesus!
We spent this last weekend with The Blackburns and The Beatys at the lake.
8 Adults
6 Kids
5 Dogs
AND IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Except one little part....
We took all the kids down to the boat dock to go fishing. Like a typical mama, I'm holding a baby on one hip, trying to make sure big kids don't fall in the water, taking pictures with my phone, handing out juice boxes, etc etc etc. Anyhow, had the stroller sitting on the dock and decided to set my phone in the cup holder so that I wouldnt accidently drop it. Needless to say, the good old Oklahoma wind decided that the stroller should roll into the water (thankfully there were no children strapped in it at the time! whew!) and now the fishies in Lake Texoma are checking their facebook status!:) Luckily sweet Sam reached in and saved the stoller but the phone is lost forever!
O well, who needs a phone anyway? Just kidding! From now on there will be no children or cell phones allowed on the dock without life jackets and waterproof containers attached!!!!!
But sweet Aunt Amy did end up getting pics of Cruz's giant fish. That's what a Lightning McQueen fishing pole will get ya boys!!! Mason, Max, and Cruz each caught fish and poor Uncle Marshall and Uncle Ryan didn't get a bite!:)
The boys finally had their annual checkups last week. I don't know what I was thinking taking them both by myself. They got 4 shots each and by the time it was over this mama was sweating and carrying one baby on each hip along with my purse, the diaper bag, and two blankies out to the car!:(
Needless to say, they are both healthy as can be!!! AND finally our entire house is sleeping through the night!!!
Happy Sleepers = Happy Mommy!!!
Cruz: 4 years old
46lbs and 42 1/2" tall
(I got the thumbs up once I promised him he could have ice cream for dinner! Whatever it takes!)
Since Jett was born, I've had this huge case of mommy guilt over the fact that he never got the ridiculous amount of uninterrupted attention like Cruz got as a baby! Well, this last weekend while Cruz was on his vaca with Nana and Chief we took Jett to the lake to spend lots of quality time together!
Have I mentioned that I completely forgot how much easier it is having one kid? Wow! I was almost "bored" at times! Whats that all about???
dancing with Gammy in the kitchen
He is super advanced! He learned how to take pictures of himself!
He told me he wanted to use this as his facebook profile pic!:)
Cruz had a very exciting weekend full of FIRSTS!!!
First time on an airplane
First time to get picked for random screening by TSA
First time to stay in a hotel
First major league baseball game
Wow! And mommy wasn't even there to witness any of it!
Nana and Chief took Cruz (for his 4th bday) to Dallas for the Rangers vs Yankees game last weekend. Cruz got to take his first plane trip with Chief while Nana met them in Dallas with the car. They stayed at a fun hotel with an indoor swimming pool and got to play lots of fun games at the Rangers ball park kids area.
Garrett and I finally caved and bought the boys a playground for their birthdays. We've been debating for a year or so. Never realized how expensive these suckers are!!! Wowzer!
We had to order the one we wanted and we knew it wouldn't arrive until a week or so after the boys actual birthdays. Since Garrett and I cannot keep gift secrets, (we're those people that have all of our Christmas presents opened by Dec. 10th) we told Cruz. He has been so excited and has been asking everyday if his pwayground is here yet!
It finally came in! YAY!
Unloading the gigantic boxes
Woo Hoo! So exciting!
This is where he stood all evening while it was put together!
Jett must know that he's a Spring baby. Here's how I know.
The child did not wear shoes or socks for the first 5 months of his life. Then when I started to put socks on him in October, he absolutely refused. Shoes were immediately a NO GO! I had all these cutie patootie teeny weeny shoes that I wanted him to wear so bad, but no! He can literally get both shoes and socks off in the time it takes us to get from our house to school in the morning. (Its 4 minutes down the street!)
Anyhow, now that he is standing by himself and may attempt to walk soon(er) (or later), his teachers at school have asked that I make sure and have shoes on him for class each day. Well good luck with that! Again, repeat the having them off in 4 minutes flat statement above! Needless to say, I have not given up hope that my cutie chunk of a kiddo will someday be willing to wear shoes! And in hopes of that happening soon(er) (or later), I purchased these two adorable pairs for summer!
The hat was originally inteneded for baldy on the left, however, he refused to wear it and Cruz offered to help out!:) Love these two more than words can express!
I've been training since January and therefore no rain, lightning, thunder, or cold was going to stand in my way. Sunday morning was the annual OKC Memorial Marathon. Erin and I met at 6am downtown and needless to say, we were not the only ones determined to accomplish this feat! There were 25,000 others who were just as crazy as us!
Anyhow, I'm happy to report that the cold and rain may have helped to numb my brain and muscles enough to allow me to finish the 13 mile half marathon in just under 3 hours (which was my goal!). Woo Hoo!
Look how pretty Erin looks at 6am in the rain! Really? Not fair!
Yes, we stopped half way around to document the moment! (and to take a pee break!:))
Crossing the finish line together! Couldn't have done it without her!!! Thank you Erin!
Have I told you how much I love the arts festival? I have been promising Cruz all week that we would go and get his face painted and eat lots of yummy food.
Well we arrived at the Arts Festival on Saturday afternoon (which was beautiful by the way) to find that the face painting line was at about a 45 minute wait. Needless to say, I tried my hardest to convince Cruz that Mommy could paint a really good zebra on his face once we got home. Well I guess you can see who won this argument!
45 minutes and a dollar later, we ended up with a basketball! Seriously?
Cruz playing in the fountain while we waited
Jett taking a milk break while we're waiting
More playing in the fountain
O, we're getting so close!!!
Mommy, I just want a basketball on my cheek.
Wait for it! Wait for it!
Bam! Viola! Happy Camper!
Then we decided to see how many food items would could sample between the 4 of us. Lets just list them for funnies!
1. bacon wrapped chicken bites
2. pepperoni pizza
3. corn on the cob
4. cinnamon roll
5. popcorn & kettle corn (yes we got one of each)
6. two beers for G and I and a lemonade for the boys
We found this nice piece of grass to sit, eat, and people watch. It was awesome! The boys started playing these silly games. Jett likes to hear himself make new sounds and Cruz likes to egg him on! Its probably more funny in person!
I'm just a regular chick trying to be the best mom, wife, friend, aunt, sister, employee and neighbor that I can be! My life is full of excitement right now and I'm trying to slow down and enjoy every single moment of it!!! I've been married to my high school sweetheart for six years and we have been truly blessed with two of the most precious little boys I know! We are so fortunate that God is present in our lives everyday and has provided us with far more than we could have ever imagined!
Thanks for visiting our family's little story book!
